How this tool works

How do you use it?
  1. Fill in the two figures the statement shows and leave the third empty.
  2. If there is also a fee per transaction, enter the number of transactions and the per-transaction fee.
  3. Read the answer, then check it against the statement total.

The formulaFee = turnover x rate / 100, so rate = fee / turnover x 100 and turnover = fee / rate x 100

What does a worked example look like?

The tool opens with this example, in pounds.

Rate
1.65%
Fee
£148.50
The missing turnover figure
£9,000.00
Which mistakes should you avoid?
  • Forgetting the per-transaction part, which makes the rate look too high.
  • Mixing gross and net turnover.
  • Not checking the answer: the fee lines should add up to the printed total.

Frequently asked questions

When would a statement leave out a figure?

Some statements show a fee and a turnover but no rate, or a rate and a fee but no turnover. This recovers the missing one.

Why leave exactly one field empty?

With two known figures the third is fixed. If more than one is empty, there are many possible answers.

What if the answer looks odd?

Check for a per-transaction fee, a minimum charge or a tax line mixed into the fee, and try again.

Does this tool save the figures?

No. It runs in your browser and nothing is sent or stored.

These tools give illustrations based on the numbers you enter. They are not quotes, financial advice or legal advice. Check any offer with the provider in writing.
